Cannes: Richie Metha to Direct Jay Baruchel Starrer ‘Baseballissimo …

The producers are looking for a new lead to play a minor-league pitcher on an Italian ball group after Anton Yelchin’s random genocide in mid-2016.

Richie Mehta has sealed on to approach a indie Baseballissimo, to star and be penned by Jay Baruchel and essay partner Jesse Chabot (Random Acts of Violence).

Mehta’s latest film is a documentary India in a Day, that was executive constructed by Ridley Scott and that follows dual progressing India-set melodramatic dramas, Siddarth and Amal. Google partnered with The Martian executive Scott, Indian helmer Anurag Kashyap and Mehta on a user-generated doc.

Mehta replaces associate Canadian filmmaker Jacob Tierney as executive of Baseballissimo while a plan regroups after Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin was set for a lead purpose in a Canadian indie, usually to die in a automobile collision in mid-2016. Yelchin was to have played Kyle Buffone, a rising minor-league ball actor who gets detoured on a approach to major-league stardom by pitching for a Peones, a group in Italy.

A71 Productions, that is co-producing Baseballissimo with Gefilter Productions, also constructed Mehta’s Siddarth and Amal. The film is formed on a book of a same name by Dave Bidini and is being constructed by David Miller and executive constructed by Geddy Lee and Bidini.

Baruchel and Chabot are repped by CAA, Thruline Entertainment and Jamie Feldman during Lichter, Grossman, Nichols, Adler Feldman; Mehta is repped by Gersh.

Baseballissimo will be shopped to buyers in Cannes by WME and A71.
