Mr Mercedes review: ‘Fantastic: a big, chunky, immediately addictive gem of a thriller and Gleeson is magnetic’

Any actor would squeeze a purpose like Hodges. we can’t consider of anyone else yet Gleeson, though, who would play him with a finish negligence for vanity. He unequivocally is superb here, creation us feel each poke of guilt-ridden pain.

But it’s also down to a classy, studious writing, that creates this initial part (and a second, that I’ve seen already) croon with slow-burning dread, and a smashing ancillary cast, including Holland Taylor as widow-next-door Ida, who has affectionate designs on Hodges, and Jharrel Jerome as a clever, Harvard-bound teen who becomes an random sidekick.
